The Wise Sea Turtle explores the quiet relationship between strength and softness.
Most of us learn to build some kind of shell long before we fully understand why we need one. Life meets us before we are ready, and we protect the tender parts of ourselves the best way we know how. Over time, that armor can begin to feel like strength itself.
But perhaps strength was never the shell.
The turtles in this painting carry flowers upon their backs as a symbol of the softness that existed beneath the armor all along... the parts of us that feel deeply, love easily, hurt, heal, and continue moving through the world with tenderness.
